-
-
-
- ============================
- TO PRINT THIS MANUAL
- ============================
-
- To print this manual, align your continuous feed paper to the top
- of a page and at the DOS prompt type:
-
- PRINT BCLABELS.DOC [Press Enter Key]
-
- DOS will respond with something like "Name of list device [PRN]:".
- As long as you are only using one printer (LPT1) just press the
- [Enter] key and printing will begin.
-
-
-
- ======================
- PROGRAM OVERVIEW
- ======================
-
-
- Bar Code Labels prints Code 39 bar codes, product descriptions,
- product code number, and prices on standard 15/16 inch labels. The
- program can be operated with the REGIT Point-of-Sale databases, or
- independently.
-
-
-
- =========================
- System Requirements
- =========================
-
-
- Bar Code Labels requires an IBM PC, XT, AT, or compatible, at least
- 256K of RAM, and PC-DOS or MS-DOS 2.0 or higher.
-
- To print the labels requires and Epson compatible 9-pin printer
- (24-pin printers will generally not print readable bar codes with
- this program).
-
-
-
- ==========================================
- SITE LICENSES AND CUSTOM PROGRAMMING
- ==========================================
-
- Large operations should contact API for information on site
- licenses, quantity merchandise discounts, and custom programming.

- CHAPTER TWO - GETTING STARTED
- *************************************
-
-
-
-
- ==============================
- HARD DRIVE INSTALLATION
- ==============================
-
- No special installation procedures are required. Simply use the
- DOS COPY command to copy the program BCLABELS.EXE to your hard
- drive. If you are going to use the program with the REGIT Point-
- of-Sale databases, then the program must be copied to the REGIT
- directory. To start the program, enter the command:
-
- BCLABELS
-
-
-
- ==========================
- FLOPPY DRIVE SYSTEM
- ==========================
-
- If you are operating independently of the REGIT Point-of-Sale
- program, you may use the original floppy or a copy, no hard drive
- is required. BCLABELS is the start-up command.
-
-
-
- ======================
- THE ESCAPE KEY
- ======================
-
- The [Escape] key is an important key and used extensively with this
- program. If you are in the process of performing a task, pressing
- the [Escape] key will usually abort that task first. Then pressing
- the [Escape] key again will return you to the Menu. If you happen
- to be performing a subtask, that subtask will be aborted first
- returning you back to the original task. This is extremely useful
- because it lets you back out off a decision if you change your
- mind.

- CHAPTER THREE - PROGRAM OPERATION
- *****************************************
-
-
- The program is completely menu driven. It is so easy to operate,
- we suggest you stop right here and start using the program. You
- will be prompted for all the information you need to enter.
-
-
-
- ===================
- PRINT DENSITY
- ===================
-
- The Bar Code Labels program prints Code 39 is five different
- sizes. The menu lists these from 1 to 5 -- 1 being the smallest
- (highest density). Sizes 1 through 3 print on standard 15/16 inch
- labels, while 4 and 5 print to large for standard labels.
-
- Most printers and bar code readers have no problem using size
- 1. This is the highest density (smallest) size any 9-pin printer
- can print. The thinnest lines are a single row from your
- dot matrix print head. As long as you have no problem with this
- size, then it is the size you should choose. It generally reads
- the best and takes up the least space on the label, allowing you to
- use smaller labels and use less of a scan stroke.
-
-
-
- ===================
- LABEL FORMATS
- ===================
-
- The program prompts you to choose several ways to print out your
- labels. With or without product descriptions, product prices, and
- even without bar codes if desired.
-
-
-
- ===============
- PRINTING
- ===============
-
- Printing on labels is easy. The program does all the work for you.
- It keeps track of the line spacing so all you have to do is
- enter the product codes (prices and descriptions if desired), and
- your printer will advance to the next label as required. You will
- need to set your printer's tractors to where you want to start
- printing on the labels.
-
- Many different widths of these 15/16 inch labels are available.
- Choose a width that best suits your needs.
-
-
-
-
- - 3 -
-
-
-
-
- You will probably wish to practice on regular paper to get your
- spacing correct. The first line will start printing exactly under
- your print head.
-
- NOTE: You do not have to print on labels! You may print on
- standard paper and cut and paste you own labels. You will actually
- get a better quality of print on standard paper than on a label. A
- consideration will be the type of backing (strength) the intended
- product has. While large quantities of labels can be obtained fairly
- inexpensively, paper and paste costs about as close to nothing as you
- can get. Give it a try, you may find it is actually easier than
- dealing with the labels.
-
-
-
- ===================================
- ENTERING PRODUCT CODE NUMBERS
- ===================================
-
- Code 39 accepts all letters, numbers, and eight special characters:
-
-
- 1) space { }
- 2) dash {-}
- 3) period {.}
- 4) dollar {$}
- 5) percent {%}
- 6) plus {+}
- 7) slash {/}
- 8) asterisk {*}
-
-
-
- Note: The "*" is the Code 39 start and stop character.
- The program automatically adds this for you.
- Do not place an "*" in the middle of a code or
- your reader will stop reading when it reaches it.
-
-
- Simply type in, or scan the product code to be printed, you will be
- prompted for description and price if you have selected to use one
- or both. You will also be prompted for the number of labels you
- wish to print. If you just want one, you may press then [Enter]
- key without having to enter the "1".
-
- The label(s) will print, the printer will advance, and you will be
- prompted to enter the next product code number. Very simple.
- As always, press the [Escape] key to return to the Menu.

- USING YOUR REGIT DATABASE
- ================================
-
-
- First, the BCLABELS.EXE program must be in the same directory as
- your REGIT Program (the REGIT directory).
-
- From the main menu, select to use the program with the REGIT
- database. Select if you want the descriptions and prices to be
- printed on the labels. Select the print density.
-
- When prompted for the product code, you may either type or scan the
- code. The description and price will be retrieved from the
- database, so you will not need to enter them. You will be asked to
- enter the number of labels to print. When through, you will be
- prompted for the next code. A very easy and quick way of printing
- your labels.
